Poem: The Projectionist

How to fund universal Medicare

I have the rights to the sky and cloud views at the street’s end.
It is called E View and it is a spin-off from the motorway tolls.
I have put a bio-metric chip in your Medicare Card
to track and measure the angle of your neck.

If you look up, the bar code registers your movement
and an electronic transfer is made from your account to mine.
You will be E Tagged on the first day of the new tax year.
When there are clouds in the sky, View Premium rate applies.

And in the evening, sunsets have treble rate.
It will be taken up by an infrastructure group
and listed on the Bourse.
Until the E Tags come on stream, of course

I have hired several View Toll collectors
who will approach you whenever you look up at the sky.
You are obliged to place the View Toll in their buckets
or face serious fines.

If you object, just keep your head down
Until E Pavement arrives.

Royal Telephone

One day I’ll sit to the rear
of the elegant chapel bier
attend my own funeral and hear
the eulogies go on and on
about a glorious yester year -
Until the forgotten mobile phone goes off.
Da dum, Da dum, Da dum
Da Didley, Dum Da Dum
And then the Son of Man appears.
